GB 1902 King Edward VII 1d Scarlet - 'Board of Education' Official Overprint - SG O84 Used (LOT G2705)

These "Official" stamps were actually only in use for a very short period. All departmental overprints were suddenly withdrawn in May 1904 following a high-profile scandal involving a stamp dealer and a corrupt official. Because of this short lifespan, they remain a very popular niche for collectors of British postal history.
